Although I love all these films, I tend to think of cinema now less in terms of single works, encased in glass as in a museum, and more in terms of bodies of work or film-series (I suppose it's the curator's mind). Hence not a single film by Chantal Akerman or Shirley Clarke, even though I rate both amongst my favourite filmmakers. In any case these 10 transcend me in ways that great novels (hence the several long films), a long night dancing and intensive mind-wandering only can.
