Our social media guidelines

We believe society needs stories. Film, television and the moving image bring them to life, helping us to connect and understand each other better.

Our social media channels are intended as a space for everyone to discover and celebrate these stories. We post regularly on Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and Letterboxd.

We love engaging with our audiences, partners, filmmakers, artists and communities across social media, and encourage conversation and debate. To ensure everyone has a positive experience on our channels, we ask you to please follow these guidelines.

Keep it relevant

We encourage constructive criticism and feedback on our activities, personal thoughts, conversation, questions and debate. When joining conversations, please stay on topic.

We may hide or remove off-topic comments, spam and irrelevant promotional messages.

Respect the community, our staff and anyone featured in our content.

We will not tolerate personal attacks, strong profanities, hate speech or graphic imagery.

We may hide or remove comments and ban users who violate these guidelines. In some instances, we may choose to turn off comments completely.

Protect yours and others’ privacy

We recommend that you never reveal any personal information about yourself or others, such as your telephone number, postal or email address, or any other details that could allow you to be identified.

Impersonation of a third-party will not be tolerated, and the user will be banned.

Resharing your content

We love to see you enjoying our content and activities. In tagging one of our social accounts or using an official hashtag, eg #LFF, you give us permission to repost this content within the original platform.

Should we wish to repost your content on a different platform to where it was originally published, for example sharing an X post on Instagram, we will obtain your permission before using it. The original account will always be credited, unless you make a request to remain anonymous.

Your questions

Our social media channels are monitored 10am to 5:30pm GMT, Monday to Friday (excluding UK national holidays). We will do our best to respond to all questions received through social media quickly and transparently within 24 hours, if the query adheres to our guidelines.

It may not always be possible to respond via social media. In these instances, we will forward your query to the relevant colleagues or provide you will the details to contact them directly. You can also submit questions directly through our contact forms.
