These are all films that I have carried with me for a while. Like all such lists, this is a highly autobiographical one, reflecting some of the epiphanic encounters that shaped my cinephilia, my evolving sense of cinematic possibilities and film history, and my subsequent approaches to teaching and writing about films. And like all such lists, this is by no means an exhaustive or unchanging list.
