Sansho the Bailiff
1954 Japan
A hard choice, but finally this is the most beautiful and the most devastating of all of Mizoguchi's films.
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid
1973 USA
I have listed the film's original date of release, but I vastly prefer the 1988 preview version and/or the 2005 special edition to the butchered original release.
Die Sehnsucht der Veronika Voss
1982 Federal Republic of Germany
Very hard to choose which film by Fassbinder to include. I am presuming that Berlin Alexanderplatz is a TV series rather than a film, and therefore cannot be included in this poll.
DULI SHIDAI
1994 Taiwan
Still waiting for the restoration of this film; I saw it upon initial release, and I have only been able to re-watch it subsequently in an inadequate format. But still undoubtedly a great film.
