I don’t want to repeat myself, therefore my 2022 list is completely different from the 2012 list. Too many choices. I had to keep some of my fixations though. Therefore Polonsky replaces Tourneur (in noir category), Ophüls replaces Lanzmann (in game-changing documentaries category), L'armee des ombres replaces Le cercle rouge (in Melville category) and Kiarostami replaces Makhmalbaf (in meta-Iranians category). No more Orson, sorry. We should “retire“ Kane anyway, like sport clubs are retiring great players shirt numbers; I mean we all know that Kane is the greatest movie of all time but since we don’t want to appear square, half of us are keeping it off our ballots. Silly us.
