Taking advantage of the fact that I was generously allowed to put together this list with absolute freedom, I opted for the healthiest option, probably the only one that does not lead straight into madness: I did not choose the 10 best movies in history, but (some of) the best movies in my history. I think it was Serge Daney who said that movies speak to us. Some of them do it in a very loud voice. This short list, which must be linked by some mysterious thread (there may be a psychological explanation, but I have no interest in diving into those waters), is my Shangri-la, a land where I always feel at home.
