The Godfather
Certainly the greatest American film of all time. The film's ability to develop a fascinating protagonist's arc for Michael whilst still remaining an ensemble piece makes this possibly the best American script of all time.
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
Nurse Ratched will forever remain the most formidable antagonist and McMurphy a hero for the ages.
A Brighter Summer Day
The most honest and meticulous character study in cinema and a film so unassumingly moving. I have never experienced anything more immersive than this film in a cinema.
Charulata
The most beautiful and gentle of all feminist films.
Three Colours Blue
The gold standard in the cinematic depiction of grief.
A Woman under the Influence
With Mabel, Gena Rowlands gifted us with the most lovable character in film ever and my personal favourite performance of all time.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
No film about memory has ever been so unforgettable and no sci-fi plot ever so poetic. A true romance, so contemporary yet so timeless - they don't make movies like this anymore.
Phantom Thread
I feel we will look back in time at this film as PTA's most intimate and very best film.
