Get Out
2017 USA, Japan
Creating suspense - and even mixing it with satire - while dealing with (not explaining) social and cultural issues. Metaphors and jump scares perfectly choreographed. And: Daniel! Kaluuya!
Jaws
1975 USA
Apart from all the great storytelling, the trio of male archetypes and the symbolsim that keeps on giving (hello vagina dentata) after 13 years of watching "Jaws" at least once a year I still don't know how Spielberg managed to create a film that feels fresh and new and surprising and thrilling everytime you watch it. Also: The dolly zoom.
I'm Not There.
2007 Germany, USA
Haynes burnt the rules of the biopic and with the ashes he created a complex and playful take on pop, image, and myths.
