All about Eve
Everybody has a heart...except some people who do not like this film. Has the best screenplay ever written.
Sunset Blvd.
Lists, which can be strangely merciful, had finally taken pity on Norma Desmond.
Imitation of Life
The greatest tearjerker ever made.
Chinatown
Forget it, Jake. It's Sight and Sound.
Do the Right Thing
Always do the right thing. I got it, I'm gone!
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" Still the greatest line ever written.
Citizen Kane
Infinitely better than How Green Was My Valley.
Vertigo
If I had any guts, I would have voted for my favorite Hitchcock, THE BIRDS!
All That Jazz
It's Showtime, folks! Bitter, acidic, egotistical and brilliant.
Playtime
Engages the compulsive in me in indescribable ways.
Further remarks
This was surprisingly easy to do. I have been dreaming about voting in this poll for decades, so I have had plenty of time to consider my choices. Oddly enough, only 3 of my ten choices were made in my lifetime, including Chinatown, the first movie I saw with an unhappy ending, and All that Jazz, the first movie to truly frustrate me as a kid. All About Eve will always be m favorite movie of all time, and Sunset Blvd. will always back it up at number 2. But if I truly had any guts, I would have voted for my favorite Hitchcock, The Birds instead of Vertigo. Maybe next time!
