My top ten are all experimental films that were groundbreakingly original and also influential, not only when they were first exhibited but thereafter. All continue to inspire viewers and the work of other artists (not just in cinema). Most are from the European and North American experimental tradition up to the early 1980s, with one contemporary work that is emblematic of the most interesting experimental cinema and media of the 21st century.
