Les Choses de la vie
I don't know why but this is my very favourite film. It is so simple yet so beautiful!
The Ice Storm
The film that made me want to become a director.
Magnolia
Perfection!
Lost in Translation
Sofia Coppola's best film. It is everything: light, heavy, cool, smart, atmospheric, emotional, beautiful.
Un CONTE DE NOËL ROUBAIX!
One of the best films about family. This film is chaos on many levels, but in the best way.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Anderson's best film, if you ask me. It's so rich of detail, so wonderfully written. The actors are superb. It's also one of the best films about family!
Barbara
If you only want to watch one German film, watch this one. Petzold might be the best German director ever and this is his best film. And it is so much about Germany.
Grosse Freiheit
The best Austrian film there is. Period.
In the Mood for Love
Breathtakingly beautiful and sad.
Me and You and Everyone We Know
One of a kind while, at the same time, the symbol for independent American cinema to me. I don't even remember specific scenes but I remember a feeling I had never felt when watching a film. It is simply unique.
Further remarks
I did not try to make the perfect list, it would not be possible. This list was made very intuitively. The first ten films that popped up in my head (and heart). They all have had an influence on me, which is why they are probably MY greatest films of all time.
