Boomerang
A romantic comedy by and starring Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy plays Marcus Graham, a handsome ad executive who can charm all the women. Until he meets and falls head over heels for Jacqueline (Robin Givens), a gorgeously independent woman who is the new boss at the company, a job he thought he would get. She gives him a taste of his own medicine by playing him just as he has played with the hearts of countless women before her. This is all set against the backdrop of New York City. The signal image that has left the most impact on me in this film is the Empire State Building.
A Warm December
A true rare classic.
Black Panther
Recent but became an instant classic with its powerful representation of the African/American diaspora
School Daze
This is a comedy, a drama, and a musical that encapsulates a time in historically black college culture of the 80s and still reflects modern-day topics.
Imitation of Life
A fan favorite of my grandmother, and I grew up watching this film with her. There is so much to touch upon. The relationship between a mother and daughter is challenging in any race or social status.
