Wallace and Gromit’s very first stop-motion adventure has a number of parallels with Georges Méliès’ own A Trip to the Moon (1902) over eighty years earlier. Nick Park began the film in 1982 while he was a student at the National Film and Television School and it took a painstaking six years to make. A worthwhile endeavour since A Grand Day Out was nominated for an Oscar and is now considered a classic of British animation.
