Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block brings alien invasion to the unexpected location of a London estate and makes heroes out of an unlikely gang of lads. This fresh and fun approach makes it the perfect introduction to the sci-fi genre for young people, and the director gives a nod to his influences: the kids live in Wyndham Towers, next to Wells and Huxley courts and Ballard and Adams Street. Blending action, horror and comedy to brilliant effect, the result is a cult sci-fi movie in the making.
