In 2018, the BFI Media Conference was a unique professional development opportunity for teachers of film and media to meet, learn and be inspired. The conference’s industry, teaching and research strands brought together teacher delegates with speakers from the film, TV, online and games industries and researchers in HE, alongside plenary sessions, networking opportunities and film screenings.
Highlights of the 2018 conference included plenary speakers Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (award-winning actor, writer, director and producer) and Angela Jain (Managing Director, ITV Studios Entertainment). Further industry speakers joined us from Universal Pictures International UK, Kantar TMS, BBC, Channel 4, plus Virtual Umbrella and other exciting independent producers. Teaching sessions covered music video, applying theory, women filmmakers, cross-media projects, practical production, YouTube and vloggers, and using archive film. Research sessions included insight and analysis of TV coverage of the Paralympics, the impact of mobile video on citizen journalism, and Ofcom’s annual report into ‘Children’s Media Lives’.
