Cannes 2023 lineup announced
Ken Loach’s BFI-backed drama The Old Oak will compete for the Palme d’Or, alongside new work by Wes Anderson, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Alice Rohrwacher and more.

The announcement of this year’s Cannes lineup revealed a packed competition, with new films from Wes Anderson, Jonathan Glazer, Jessica Hausner, Todd Haynes, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Catherine Breillat, Aki Kaurismaki, Hirokazu Koreeda, Tran Anh Hung, Alice Rohrwacher and more. In among them is the latest film from Ken Loach, the County Durham-set drama The Old Oak, which is backed by the BFI Film Fund, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
Another BFI backed film, Molly Manning Walker’s directorial debut How to Have Sex, has been announced for the Un Certain Regard section. Also in Un Certain Regard is Felipe Galvez’s first feature, The Settlers (Los colonos), which was supported through the UK Global Screen Fund.
As previously announced, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and the new Indiana Jones film, James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will premiere out of competition.
The 76th edition of the festival runs 16 to 27 May. The opening film is the period drama Jeanne du Barry, directed by Maïwenn and starring Johnny Depp.
