BAFTAs 2024: the winners in full
Oppenheimer grabs seven awards, with Poor Things and The Zone of Interest also winning big.
Oppenheimer has triumphed at the 2024 British Academy Film Awards, winning best film and best director for Christopher Nolan, his first BAFTA. Cillian Murphy was recognised as best actor for his portrayal of atomic age scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, while his co-star Robert Downey Jr won best supporting actor.
The overall tally for Nolan’s film is seven awards, with Yorgos Lanthimos’s feminist fantasy adventure Poor Things following on five awards, including best actress for Emma Stone for her turn as Bella Baxter. Jonathan Glazer’s Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest won three awards, including both outstanding British film and best film not in the English language. Best supporting actress is Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers, which also won best casting.
Winning films which first screened to UK audiences at the BFI London Film Festival include Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Poor Things, The Zone of Interest, Earth Mama and The Boy and the Heron.
