New Voices in Documentary Filmmaking

This session will discuss documentary storytelling, analysing two films from the festival selection: Mother Vera and Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other

Left to right: Cécile Embleton, Manon Ouime, Jacob Perlmutter
  • Date: Friday 11 October
  • Time: 11:45
  • Venue: Picturehouse Central

Join us for this panel discussion about contemporary storytelling in documentary films, focusing on two Festival entries. The films capture their characters at a pivotal moment in their lives: Mother Vera finds a young Orthodox nun confronting her past, while Two Strangers Trying Not To Kill Each Other sees a couple, both artists, navigating the challenges of a long relationship and ageing.

With backgrounds in documentary, photography and fine arts, filmmakers Cécile Embleton, Manon Ouimet and Jacob Perlmutter will guide us through their creative process and the production journey of their respective films. The event will offer an exciting opportunity to discuss the myriad challenges and opportunities of non-fiction filmmaking.

The event is programmed in collaboration with Sheffield DocFest.
