This in-person study day links to AQA, OCR and Eduqas, where students will explore newspapers across a range of platforms in a dynamic format. Key products analysed include The Guardian, The Sun (plus online platform), The Observer (plus online platform), the Daily Mirror and The Times.
Media language and representation, as well as media industries and audience using historical, social, cultural and political contexts will be examined. Analysis of the relationship between online and offline news will reveal newspapers as evolving media products.
We will be joined by Guardian columnist Joseph Harker for a Q&A discussion. Joseph is the Guardian’s senior editor of diversity and development. Amongst his speciality writings include race, politics, sport and culture written across multiple publications as a deputy Opinion Editor and Publisher.
Our in-venue events take place in one of the BFI’s auditoriums, school groups are encouraged to engage in an interactive lecture where learning activities using clips are designed to peek interest. Students are supported to share their thoughts and ideas helping to build confidence and deepen understanding.

You should book by 4pm at least two working days before the event. However, we recommend booking earlier to avoid disappointment.
Prices
The study day costs £10.00 per student.
Accompanying teachers and adults cost £1 per five students, otherwise student rate applies.
£40 for teachers attending without students.
If your school has over 20% of students getting free school meals, you should ask about a discount when you book.
We cannot send invoices or accept BACS payments for these courses.
