Exploring the aesthetics of Parasite for KS5 Film Studies

This in-person event will focus on the representations of gender and social class via a close analysis of Parasite, with a screening of the full film.

Parasite (2019)

Date: 4 February 2025
Time: 10:30am to 3pm
Location: BFI Southbank

Event details

Throughout the day we will examine the production, political, cultural and social contexts of Parasite (Dir. Bong Joon Ho), looking at ways these affect the film’s aesthetic.

New to the A-Level Film Studies specification, our interactive introduction to the text will also include a screening of the full film, offering a unique chance to see Parasite on the big screen while preparing for the Global Cinema section of the curriculum.

We will apply features of named aesthetics which link to particular contextual factors through analysis of key sequences. In the post-screening discussion, we will focus on representations of gender and an analysis of the meaning and response to the ending of the film.

Our in-venue events take place in one of the BFI’s auditoriums. School groups are encouraged to engage in learning activities designed to pique interest and are supported to share their thoughts and ideas, helping to build confidence and deepen understanding.
