The best friends anyone ever had: our higher-education partners and BFI Player subscribers

Meet the universities we’re working with to bring BFI Player to more than 200,000 students.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

We’re excited to be working with over 25 higher-education institutions (HEIs) across the UK, making BFI Player available to more than 200,000 students.

At the heart of our work with HEIs lies BFI Player access, giving staff and students access to hundreds of acclaimed classic, cult and archive films and wide ranging collections handpicked by the BFI at a discounted rate.

With foreign language and independent films, multi-disciplinary subscribers can unearth stories that speak to them and their research. Our subscriber level HEIs for 2022- 2023 are:

  • BIMM Institute, Birmingham University, The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of Exeter, University of Glasgow, University of Huddersfield, King’s College London, University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Manchester University, Norwich University of the Arts, Nottingham Trent University, Queen Mary University of London, University of Southampton, University of the Arts London, University of West Scotland

In addition to BFI Player access, HEIs with partner status work with us on bespoke projects, drawing on the BFI’s expertise to enhance student experience and attract recruits.

Putting our heads together, we collaborate on ambitious projects including careers weeks, filmmaking training and film clubs. Our partner level HEIs for 2022- 2023 are:

  • Birmingham City University, University of Cambridge, Durham University, Lancaster University, LSBU, MetFilm School, NFTS, Northumbria University, Ravensbourne University, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Westminster

We began offering BFI Player to HEIs in 2020 as part of a brave new venture to help widen appreciation and understanding of film and the moving image within universities.

There’s no greater indicator of our success than the growing number of HEIs working with us, and we’re proud of the number of returning and new universities we have for this academic year.
