Sonia Genaitay

Sonia is a curatorial archivist at the BFI National Archive, and works as part of the Collections Development team, dealing with moving image acquisitions. A graduate from the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation in Rochester, NY, she has been at the BFI since 2002, initially as moving image archivist and later as a curator of fiction films. More recently, she coordinated a large print audit in preparation for the inaugural BFI Film on Film Festival and subsequently worked as project manager for the film print strand on the Lottery-funded Heritage 2022, helping to create 100 new 35mm prints for the BFI National Archive.

Her interests are in film restoration, early colour processes and issues relating to collection’s care and management. She has written for Sight and Sound and contributed to the Journal of British Cinema and Television.
