Senior curator, archive projects
Mark Duguid is senior curator of archive projects in the BFI National Archive, responsible for the representation of archival film and television on digital and other channels, including BFI Player, BFI Screenonline, YouTube and the BFI Mediatheques across the UK. He also oversees curatorial input into archive projects, including the ongoing Heritage 2022 project, and leads on editorial matters in print and online. His interests include Ealing Studios, Alfred Hitchcock, 1960s, 80s and 90s British film and British television drama, comedy and satire.
Mark has an MA in Film and Television from Birkbeck, University of London. He joined the BFI in 1998, as developer on what would become BFI Screenonline and became Screenonline’s editor on its launch in 2003, moving to the curatorial team in 2010.
He programmed the BFI Southbank seasons ‘Second Coming: The rebirth of UK TV drama’ in 2010 and ‘The Wednesday Play @ 50’ (2014), and was lead programmer of the 2012 season ‘Ealing: Light and Dark’. He has also hosted several on-stage interviews and panel discussions. He is the author of the monograph Cracker (Palgrave/BFI, 2010) in the BFI TV Classics series, and co-editor of Ealing Revisited (Palgrave/BFI, 2012), and has contributed reviews and features to Sight and Sound, including major interviews with Tony Garnett and Peter Kosminsky, and contributed booklet essays for DVD/Blu-ray releases of The Long Good Friday and the box set Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke at the BBC.
