Dr Josephine Botting

Josephine joined the BFI in 1998 after working for Reuters and various other moving image archives. As a curator in the fiction team, she programmes the monthly screening Projecting the Archive strand and has also presented BFI Southbank seasons on Muriel Box, Alexander Korda, Deborah Kerr, Margaret Lockwood, Vivien Leigh and Gloria Grahame. She coordinated the BFI Most Wanted missing film hunt which launched in 2010 and is currently working on a project on BFI-funded films.  

Josephine has a general interest in British cinema, particularly the representation and participation of women. She has a degree and research MA in film and completed a PhD thesis in 2017 that was published by Edinburgh University Press in April 2023 as Adrian Brunel and British Cinema of the 1920s. Outside the BFI, she talks and writes about various film-related topics and contributes to extras on Blu-ray releases.
