UK screen sector economy

Screen Business reports analyse the impact of the screen sector tax reliefs to the UK economy.

2021

Screen Business 2021 analyses the crucial contribution of tax reliefs to the continued growth of the screen industries and economy in the UK for the three-year period 2017 to 2019. It provides updated analysis from our previous 2018 report on the impact of each of the screen sector tax reliefs in place in the UK. Those tax reliefs cover film, high-end television, video games, TV animation programmes and children’s TV programmes.

Screen Business 2021 also presents new and expanded areas of analysis, including production expenditure for film and high-end television in the UK’s nations and England’s regions, coverage of studio investments, screen sector innovation and a comparison of global tax incentives.

Commissioned by the BFI through its National Lottery-supported Research and Statistics Fund and working with industry partners the British Film Commission, Pact, Pinewood Group, TIGA, Ukie and the UK Screen Alliance, along with national and regional screen agencies, this report from Olsberg SPI with Nordicity covers 2017 to 2019, continuing on from our previous impact analyses published in 2018.

The 2021 Screen Business report was launched at an online event on 13 December 2021. Watch a recording of the launch presentations below or read the full, summary and additional information reports.
