Adult community learning

Adult community film education at BFI Southbank offers a unique programme on the art, craft and context of moving image culture.

Our activities are spread across public programme strands and film seasons, and range from introduced screenings and courses to discussions and masterclasses.

Our strands include African Odysseys, a programme of events devised with the African-Caribbean cultural community. This groundbreaking initiative extends audiences and promotes both revivals and new work. Key speakers and audience discussion and participation are vital to these screenings.

Wider cultural programming includes collaborations with Middle Eastern, East Asian and South Asian filmgoing communities.

A programme of introduced free and paid matinees offers senior audiences a taste of the best of the BFI. It also includes an on-going series of richly illustrated presentations utilising the enthusiasm and expertise of our staff to contextualise films from the BFI National Archive.
